PR and Publicity
Demystified

Most of the top hundred law firms and barristers' chambers retain PR and Publicity agencies and have a dedicated PR and communications employee within their marketing departments.

The average cost of retaining an external agency is £50,000 per annum and the average cost of hiring an employee experienced in Media Relations is £35,000 plus any expenses incurred in using outside agencies.

On the whole, external agencies are more successful at securing the required publicity, although our discussions with the journalists have revealed that they would like to be able to talk to qualified lawyers, as it makes their job easier.
